War and Peace

See this is what happens when you like an intellectual guy.

It makes you feel stupid inadequate.

I've recently discovered that Okada reads very literary stuff.

Like 三國演義. And he is able to recite the names of obscure generals within. Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Like "War and Peace" written by Leo Tolstoy.
It's those kind of literary works that hold the status of leather bound tomes, God forbid if you should call it a book.

For the uninitiated (welcome to the club), War and Peace is a really LONG story about 4 Russian families with unpronounceable names. The kind of names that sound irritatingly similar and get you all confused after the first 10 pages (if you survive the first 10 pages).

As if that is not enough, Okada-kun watches deep, thought-provoking Russian movies.

Hmmm.

What was my latest reading material?

Oh yeh, the Shopaholic Series,
it comes in cheerful pink and pastel covers garishly decorated with cartoon illustrations.

GAH.

Don't be mistaken, I love guys who are intellectual and well read,
I just don't want to read those awfully depressing books myself.
Can't I just bask in the reflected glow of their literary knowledge?

To think on the good side, Okada and I are both reading fiction, so it's not that bad.
(Yes, War and Peace is actually a work of fiction, though it's so dreary and heavy you would think it's real.)

Still I thought maybe I should try to broaden my mind.
So I went to the library and got this really grim book about war and severed limbs and feelings of isolation and what not.
It won tonnes of awards that I've never heard of and is suppose to be "harrowing, inventive and deeply affecting".
And it is too, just holding the book makes me feel smarter already.

Sometimes I wonder why I keep running circles around some far away Japanese idol
And I finally got my answer when I saw HX's nick on MSN one day.
I just can't help it
You are my favourite waste of time.
