Got my Takitsuba Best Album today! (タキツバ5周年おめでとう!!) Translated one of my favourite tracks on it, Tsubasa's solo "Nagareboshi" which means "shooting star." It can be heard on the music player at the side bar. ^^
どうぞよろしくね ^^

Came across some funny stuff during my spate of tuitioning lately. First up was a chinese model essay a teacher did up for students to study. It was supposed to be a letter to an older cousin expressing concerns over the cousin's recent weight gain. Quoting the teacher,
"以前你是一个身材魁梧,体格健壮的年轻人,没想到半年不见,你就变得脑满肠肥了。"
Ahahahaha Full marks for the vocab but where the hell is the TACT?? And it's supposed to be addressed to an older cousin? If I ever receive such a letter I'll come and punch the young punk silly. 脑满肠肥indeed.
Another one was a Biology question from XX Secondary School's prelims. Simple MCQ question that asked
Which of the following shows a plant cell? 1: [Diagram of a neuron] 2: [Diagram of a plant epidermal cell] 3: [Diagram of muscle cell] 4: [Diagram of guard cells]
A: 1 & 3 B: 2 & 4 C: 2 & 3 D: 2 only
Obviously everyone chose option B. WRONG!!! Answer is D!
Because the question asked for a plant cell. Singular! Singular! Whereas the diagram of guard cells showed a pair of plant cells, so it can't be the answer.
Gee I didn't know it was a Biology cum English exam paper. It'll be funny, if only the students didn't need to depend on their prelim grades to get into JC for the first month. As it is I feel really sorry for my kids. I'm really sorry that their teachers are such screw-ups.
What the heck are the teachers hoping to achieve by setting this kind of question, I have no idea. They seem to be, at least in my mind, flipping the students the bird and gloating "HAH! Didn't expect THIS did you? Can't get past me no matter how hard you study nyah nyah nyah"
Was reading Stephen King's "From A Buick 8" and came across this passage.
"And was all that important to my story? I thought so. The kid, obviously, thought different. I kept trying to give him a context and he kept repudiating it, wanting to hear the story out of context and out of history, chainless and immaculate. He wanted what suit him."
"He wasn't going to hear all I had to say, no matter how much I wanted him to or how hard I tried. He'd hear the parts he wanted to hear and call it good. Think of it as the Teenage Disease."
I understand man, I totally do. Just try teaching any teenager. They seldom want the facts, nor the background information. All they want are the exam answers.
Or could it be just me? Barely 25 and already turning into a naggy old fart?! Crap.
